Von Herzogenberg Spiritual Songs

Alexandra will be the violinist with Cyrissa Anderson, soprano, and Richard Robertson, organ in a performance of three of Heinrich von Herzogenberg’s Geistliche Gesänge (Spiritual Songs), Op. 89, 1895. The texts for these exquisitely beautiful songs are spiritual poems by Eduard Mörike, Joseph von Eichendorff, and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in the tradition of German Romanticism, which frequently explored connections between religious faith and the beauty and sublimity of nature.

The performance is part of a new recital series at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 1900 California Street in downtown Denver.

Anne Guzzo chamber opera premiere in Wyoming!

Alexandra will be the violinist for an exciting project in late September: the world premiere of distinguished composer Anne Guzzo's new 60-minute chamber opera, Locust: The Opera, An Environmental Murder Mystery. For this inventive new work Dr. Guzzo, who serves on the Music faculty of the University of Wyoming-Laramie, has collaborated with her University of Wyoming colleague, scientist-author-librettist Dr. Jeffrey Lockwood. In the words of Wyoming PBS, "Art and science will collide to tell the story of the extinction of the Rocky Mountain Locust."

Locust is set for tenor, baritone, violin, cello, flute/piccolo, clarinet/bass clarinet, piano, and percussion. The opera's three characters are The Entymologist (tenor Todd Teske), The Rancher (baritone Thomas Erik Angerhofer), and The Locust (soprano Cristin Colvin), whose character the libretto describes as "a ghostly apparition dressed in a flowing, diaphanous outfit of earth tones, with a shimmering train representing a swarm."

Two premiere performances will be offered at the National Museum of Wildlife Art, 2820 Rungius Rd, Jackson, WY 83001. The first will take place on the evening of Friday, September 28; the second on Saturday afternoon, September 29. Dates in the calendar listing for this event show start times for the two performances.
